What is an FBI background check?
Officially called an Identity History Summary, it is a report issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation based on a search of records associated with your fingerprints. It may be requested as part of an immigration or other administrative process.
What does the apostille certify?
An apostille authenticates the origin of a public document for international use. The federal apostille for an FBI report is issued by the U.S. Department of State. It does not certify the contents of the report or determine the outcome of an immigration application.
Can I arrange the service while living in Chile?
Yes. This service is designed for U.S. citizens residing in Chile. We coordinate your fingerprint appointment and the processing and delivery of your documents. Tell us your city and commune so we can confirm local arrangements.
Where can my fingerprints be taken?
Home appointments can be coordinated in Las Condes, Vitacura and Lo Barnechea. For other communes in Santiago and locations elsewhere in Chile, arrangements and travel costs are confirmed individually. The fingerprint visit is quoted separately.
How long does the service take?
Allow approximately eight weeks for Standard or three weeks for Expedited, counted from your fingerprint appointment. These are estimated end-to-end service timeframes, rather than guaranteed processing times from the FBI or other authorities.
Will I receive the original apostilled document?
Yes. Both service options include delivery of the original apostilled document to your address in Chile.
Is translation included?
The document is delivered in English. A Spanish translation is not included in either service option.
Do I need to be an existing GMS client?
No. You can engage GMS for this service independently, or request it as part of your ongoing immigration process with our team.
